Our Approach to Concussion Care
Concussion is an invisible injury. Often areas affected by a concussion are blamed on other causes. Recovery may take longer, depending on the severity of your concussion. At the NeuroRehab and Balance Center, a team of occupational therapists, physical therapists, and speech-language pathologists will work together to address your needs and help you reach your goals. A case manager and exercise physiologist are also available to help with your recovery.
Occupational Therapists
An occupational therapist can help with
- Daily activities: Your therapist can help you conserve energy and improve your ability to relax and return to daily activities without worsening symptoms.
- Accessibility recommendations: Your therapist can recommend adaptations and strategies for returning to work and daily life.
- Symptom management: Your therapist can suggest resources for symptom management during the healing process.
- Vision issues: Your therapist will measure your visual motor skills. Dynavision, an interactive light board, will help you improve your vision.
Physical Therapists
A physical therapist can help with
- Pain management: With exercises and manual therapy, your therapist can address your neck pain and headaches.
- Dizziness: Your therapist will complete a vestibular assessment and can address any dizziness and motion with Computerized Dynamic Posturography testing and Dynamic Visual Acuity testing.
- Balance: Your therapist will have you perform physical activity that challenges your stability to help return you to your previous level of function.
Speech-language Pathologists
A speech-language pathologist can help with
- Communication problems: Your speech-language pathologist can address any issues with talking, language comprehension, and swallowing.
- Cognitive retraining: Your speech-language pathologist will help you improve your attention, memory, problem-solving, and reasoning abilities.
- Accessibility recommendations: If you’re a student, accessibility accommodations can help you participate in the classroom during recovery.
