A breast ultrasound is an important tool following an abnormal finding on a mammogram. It is a noninvasive exam that uses sound waves to create images of the breast tissue. This test can give a clearer picture of your breast health and help your radiologist determine if additional imaging or tests are needed.
Our Approach to Breast Ultrasound
Breast ultrasounds are noninvasive and painless. They are a great way to get a better look at your breast health and any changes that have occurred. Sometimes, mammogram images are unclear when it comes to abnormalities, especially in women with dense breast tissue. Breast ultrasounds are a great follow-up to get a clear look at any potential problems.
At Kettering Health, we are dedicated to helping you on your wellness journey. We know that being screened for breast cancer is scary. We’ll give you our best so you and your loved ones can focus on having confidence and peace of mind.
Automated Breast Ultrasound
The Invenia™ Automated Breast Ultrasound (ABUS) screening helps radiologist find cancers hidden in dense breast tissue, which a normal mammography may miss.
For the 40% of women in the US with dense breast tissue, adding an ABUS screening can increase the detection of cancers.
The exam is done with the patient lying on an exam table and it takes about 15 minutes. The ABUS screening uses sound ways to create clear 3D images. These images are reviewed along with your mammogram, helping provide a more comprehensive evaluation of your breast tissue and any potential abnormalities.
