Why We Offer a Risk Assessment
Risk assessments can determine if you have a high risk of developing hereditary cancer.
We offer cancer risk assessments to all Kettering Health Breast Center patients. Assessments are voluntary and free of charge. An assessment helps us have a better understanding of your history—and your body—with a focus on your long-term wellness.
Participating in a Risk Assessment
Your mammography technologist conducts the cancer risk assessment and will ask you questions about
- Age at first live birth
- Breast biopsies
- Date of first menstrual cycle
- Family history of various cancers (it is important to know which relative and age at onset)
- Genetic testing
- Pregnancies and live births
- Your health history
We also evaluate your breast density. Breast density can only be determined based on your mammogram. We combine all this information to calculate your risk so we can provide expert consultation and care.
