The Intensive Outpatient Program, also known as IOP, is a personalized program that combines group therapy sessions and individual therapy to promote positive behavioral change. It’s our commitment to provide each patient with the tools they need to successfully complete the program and gain the skills to maintain a healthy lifestyle within their community.
Intensive Outpatient Programs We Offer
We offer three different IOPs, each tailored to meet the unique needs of each patient. The goal of each IOP is to support positive behavioral changes through interactive and interpersonal exploration and development. Each program meets for 9 to 12 hours per week over a period of four to six weeks.
The Adult IOP provides comprehensive psychiatric treatment and services for adults (18 and older) with a primary psychiatric diagnosis of a mood or anxiety disorder. Adult IOP is ideal for those recently discharged from inpatient programs or, in some cases, as an alternative to inpatient treatment.
Patients build skills and find support through group therapy and individual counseling. Medication management is also available through Adult IOP.
Hours
- IOP A | General Mental Health: Monday-Thursday 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
- IOP A+ | High Acuity Mental Health: Monday-Thursday 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
- IOP C | General mental Health: Wednesday 3 p.m. – 6 p.m.
After the Call is an IOP that helps first responders with their behavioral and mental health. This program helps first responders manage their anxieties, cope with daily stressors, and process them in a supportive environment.
In addition to the group therapy sessions, individual and family counseling with a licensed clinical therapist (psychiatrist, therapist, or nurse practitioner) is also available to After the Call patients. During treatment, a psychiatrist assesses every patient and helps manage their medication. Most insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid, offer coverage for this service.
The College Age IOP is intended for college students, ages 18-24, currently enrolled in undergraduate studies and experiencing a mental or behavioral health condition requiring a higher level of care than traditional outpatient therapy, such as anxiety, depression, or suicidal thoughts or behaviors.
Along with group therapy sessions, and depending on the patient’s treatment plan, individual therapy is provided on a weekly or bi-weekly basis, and family counseling is also offered. Medication management is also available to help patients navigate the process of filling prescriptions, understand their insurance and copays, and understand the importance of taking their medication as prescribed.
Hours
- IOP CA | College Age: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Day to Day in the Intensive Outpatient Program
A multidisciplinary team will design a personalized treatment plan for each patient. Each day, patients participate in group activities with one of our well-trained clinicians. Additionally, patients have the opportunity to meet individually with a clinician throughout the program and to meet with a nurse practitioner for any medication management needs.
IOP provides a unique opportunity for patients to improve social support and self-esteem and have greater overall life satisfaction. Group sessions will help individuals
- Build structure into their days.
- Curb destructive impulses and behaviors.
- Develop healthy coping skills to manage symptoms.
- Express thoughts and feelings.
- Manage anger, guilt, and shame.
- Manage medications through individual psychiatry sessions.
- Practice interpersonal effectiveness and communication skills.
- Process trauma with peers.
- Reduce fears, anxieties, and depression.
Graduation From the Intensive Outpatient Program
Upon graduation from IOP, patients participate in a Rock Ceremony that honors their journey, serves as a visual reminder of their new coping skills, and celebrates the accomplishments achieved during the program.
Many patients who complete the program go from feeling broken, defeated, and hopeless to being filled with optimism, gaining strength and determination. During this ceremony, we cheer for everyone and offer encouragement as they move forward.
