Neonatal care is the type of care a baby receives when he or she is born premature, has low weight, or is sick. At Kettering Health, we offer Special Care Nurseries on-site to provide your baby with the extra care he or she needs to go home. We want to work with you to get your baby better, so he or she is nice and strong when you take him or her home.
Our Approach to Neonatal Care
We realize nobody wants their baby to need extra care after a birth. You have envisioned the day your baby is born for months, and part of that dream is leaving the hospital with your baby in your arms. We provide a team of specialists in neonatology, respiratory therapy, nutrition, and specialized nursing care. Whether it’s through our Special Care Nurseries (SCN) or Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), we’re here to provide your baby the care needed to get everyone home to start this new chapter of life.
Special Care Nurseries
Our Special Care Nurseries offer the following:
- Family-centered bonding environment
- Neonatal Care available 24/7
- Neonatal respiratory team

We provide support and treatment for pre-maturity, low birth weight, multiples, oxygen therapy, and special feeding needs. At Kettering Health, we create an environment where your baby’s needs come first. Whatever special needs they might have, our skilled team is here to cater to them and help your baby get better. Kettering Health Washington Township and Soin have Level II Special Care Nurseries.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
We offer a Level III NICU at Kettering Health Main Campus (formerly Kettering Medical Center), so the tiniest babies and their parents can stay together. Our NICU care offers intensive treatment and care for critically ill babies. Kettering Medical Center’s NICU also offers the following:
• private rooms with skin-to-skin chairs
• secure web cameras
• specialized NICU lactation consultants
• in-house neonatology 24/7, with subspecialists available through our partnership with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center
We will help you on this journey into parenthood, recognizing how difficult this is for you and your family. You will be met with support and understanding as you visit your baby. And we will treat your baby with love while he or she is under our care.
