These classes prepare expectant mothers for childbirth and baby care. Registration is required for all classes and can be done online or by calling us at (937) 395-8600.
All classes include the expectant mother and one support person.
We recommend you contact your insurance company to find out their requirements for reimbursement to you.
Clients with Medicaid, Molina, or CareSource can contact our office by email or by phone to register.
Our eClasses allow parents to learn using some of the most common languages spoken in the US: English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Arabic, Japanese, and Chinese.
Parents can select a different language at any point as they navigate through an eClass.
Childbirth class during COVID-19 information
The Childbirth Preparation, Baby Care, Breastfeeding, and Infant Safety/CPR classes are being offered online in addition to in-person classes. Due to COVID-19, masks are required for all learners during in-person classes.
This 3-hour class focuses on the basic care of your newborn. During this interactive class, you’ll learn about the importance of bonding for your child’s brain development and how to read your baby’s cues to understand what they need.
Additional topics include:
- Bath demonstration
- Feeding and diapering tips
- Normal newborn characteristics
- Well baby/sick baby information
- Safety at home and on the go
A self-paced eClass is available which includes instructional videos, interactive games and personal experiences to help you learn to care for your newborn.
This 2.5 hour class led by a certified lactation consultant will help you get off to the best start by learning about:
- Prenatal preparation
- Positions for mom and baby
- Breastfeeding warning signs
- Prevention and relief of common problems
- Breastfeeding when returning to work
A self-paced eClass is also available which includes instructional videos, interactive games and personal interviews to help you with breastfeeding.
Prepare for the upcoming birth of your baby by learning about:
- Physical and emotional changes during pregnancy
- Signs and symptoms of labor
- Comfort and relaxation techniques
- Stages of labor
- Medical interventions and medications
- What to expect after delivery
A self-paced eClass, 1-day express class and weekly series are available to meet your scheduling needs.
This class features instructive video clips, interactive games, and personal birth stories to help you learn about what labor is really like.
This class focuses on current maternity practice and updates grandparents-to-be on changes in infant care and safety guidelines. Virtual live classes are available.
Infant/Child CPR and Safety
Taught by a CPR-certified registered nurse, this one-time three-hour class covers basic CPR skills and choking prevention. Class space is limited to provide a personal learning experience. No certification is given for this course.
Infant/Child Safety Class
Accidents are the leading cause of death in children, so this eClass teaches you to protect your little ones. Get information about preventing accidents, including the following:
- Car safety
- Emergency preparedness
- Home safety
- Safety products
Severe weather advisories
If there is severe weather, your class may be canceled. If you have a class scheduled at any Kettering Health location and the weather is questionable, please refer to our Maternity page for more information. We make every effort to make weather-related decisions two hours prior to class time.
If weather conditions in your area are too hazardous for you to travel, please call the Childbirth Education Office to reschedule.
