Our Approach to Cancer Prevention
Our goal is to detect cancer early and prevent it. Through risk assessment, counseling, and genetic testing, we’ll make sure our care meets your needs.
Understand Your Cancer Risk
Throughout your healthcare journey, you will have many opportunities to take our Cancer Risk Assessment. You can take it at your primary care provider visit, a breast cancer screening, or a specialist visit. The assessment helps us better understand your history—and your body—to determine the best way to keep you healthy.
Using research-based algorithms, the assessment will give you a lifetime cancer risk score based on your answers to questions covering personal risk factors. If you score above 20% for risk of breast cancer, we may refer you to the Cancer Prevention Center.
If you do not have a referral but have a family history of cancer, you may be able to make an appointment as a self-referral.
What to Expect at Your Appointment
At your appointment, we will discuss your Cancer Risk Assessment results and if genetic testing is right for you.
If you choose to move forward with genetic testing, we will perform a saliva or blood test. Results for these tests typically come back in two weeks.
If you test positive for any mutations, we will call you to schedule a follow-up appointment. If you test negative, you will receive a phone call and a follow-up appointment may not be needed.
Should you need a follow-up appointment, our providers will discuss the best preventative treatment plan for you.
