About Me
Courtney Nelson, APRN-CNP, is a nurse practitioner working in critical care with special interests in acute care, complex chronic disease management, geriatric care, cardiac and cardiopulmonary conditions.
She earned her Master of Science in nursing-nurse practitioner from the University of Cincinnati. Prior to her role with Kettering Health, Courtney worked as a clinical nurse and a team leader for over five years in medical and surgical intensive care units.
After working for several years as a critical care nurse, Courtney wanted to become an APP to expand her scope of practice and to provide a higher level of care to acutely ill and complex patients. She was driven by a desire to take a more active role in diagnosis, treatment planning, and clinical decision-making, while continuing to provide compassionate, patient-centered care.
Outside of patient care, Courtney enjoys hiking, traveling, and spending quality time with family and friends.
This provider specializes in caring for patients during their stay in the hospital, overseeing their treatment and guiding them to recovery. After you’re discharged, you will be seen by your regular specialist or primary care provider.
What is a Certified Nurse Practitioner?
A certified nurse practitioner (CNP) is an advanced practice registered nurse. They hold a master’s or doctoral degree and have advanced clinical training. They collaborate with physicians to diagnose and treat patients. Like physicians, they can make referrals, provide physical exams, order and interpret tests, and prescribe medications.
