Congratulations to our August Living the Mission Award winners.
The Living the Mission Award is given to people who bring Kettering Health’s mission to life, demonstrating the sacred work of improving the quality of life for people in the communities we serve. They use their own time and resources to transform lives, whether that’s in one of our facilities or out in the community.

The most meaningful acts of care happen in the quiet moments, when someone notices a need and chooses to help. Abby is someone who does this every day. Through her actions, she brings our mission and values to life, showing patients and teammates what compassionate, whole-person care truly looks like.
Abby treats every patient with dignity, kindness, and spiritual respect. She takes the time to see the person behind the circumstance and makes sure those who may be struggling or easily overlooked feel valued and cared for. From quietly gathering clothing and supplies for patients in need to finding small ways to provide comfort and support, Abby consistently goes beyond what is expected because she genuinely cares.
Her compassion is matched by her integrity, attentiveness, and reliability. Abby is fully present in her interactions, creating a sense of safety and trust for patients and those around her. She notices what needs to be done, fills gaps without being asked and can always be counted on to approach each situation with calmness, thoughtfulness, and respect.
What makes Abby such a remarkable example of Living the Mission is the consistency of her care. Her kindness is not occasional; it is woven into everything she does. She inspires her teammates to pause, look beyond the task at hand and remember the “why” behind their work.
Abby does more than care for patients. She helps create an environment where compassion is felt, teamwork is strengthened, and the mission is lived out every day. Her example reminds us that sometimes the smallest acts of kindness can make the biggest difference. Thank you, Abby, for always living our mission. Congratulations!
Emma exemplifies what it means to live God’s love through her commitment to our mission, B-WELL values and patient safety. On April 28, a patient arrived at Soin Medical Center for what was believed to be a routine ultrasound for a sports injury. During the exam, Emma noticed findings that did not align with the initial interpretation. Rather than assuming someone else would address her concern, she trusted her clinical judgment, respectfully spoke up and followed the appropriate chain of command.
After Emma notified her supervisor, the medical director reviewed the findings and agreed with her assessment. The patient was immediately sent to the Emergency Department, where life-threatening pulmonary emboli were diagnosed and treated.
The patient later shared his gratitude, calling Emma his “hero” and praising her attention to detail, intelligence, and courage. Her actions brought every B-WELL value to life. She demonstrated Belonging by treating her patient with genuine care, Wholeness by looking beyond the exam to the person, Excellence through exceptional clinical judgment, Leadership by speaking up when it mattered most, and Learning by collaborating with others to achieve the safest outcome.
Emma also demonstrated B-SAFE by maintaining a questioning attitude, communicating effectively, and having the courage to stop the line for patient safety.
Emma’s courage and compassion made a life-saving difference and serve as an inspiring example of what it means to truly live the mission.
Emma, we are so proud to have you here at Kettering Health and we are honored to recognize you for living our mission. Congratulations!
Corine is a wonderful example of what it means to Live the Mission through the everyday moments that make a difference. With compassion, professionalism, and a consistently positive attitude, she goes above and beyond to support both patients and her fellow team members.
Whether stepping in to help a teammate, sharing her knowledge, or simply offering encouragement when it is needed, Corine is always willing to lend a hand. Her dependable presence helps create a welcoming environment where team members feel supported and patients feel cared for, respected, and valued.
Corine’s commitment to collaboration and patient-centered care strengthens more than just the work being done. She helps build a culture of belonging, respect, and excellence across the unit. By leading through her actions, she encourages those around her to work together, support one another, and bring their best to every patient interaction.

Through her compassion, generosity and unwavering commitment to others, Kathy is a shining example of what it means to live the mission. She consistently brings Kettering Health’s values of Belonging, Wholeness and Excellence to life.
Kathy is always willing to go the extra mile for her team. She regularly picks up additional shifts and willingly floats to other departments to provide assistance because, at the heart of everything she does, she truly enjoys caring for people. She welcomes new team members, remains approachable and positive, and is often the first to step forward when someone needs help.
Her dedication to patients is just as remarkable. Kathy is a strong advocate for mental health patients, speaking up for their needs and raising safety concerns appropriately. She brings comfort and dignity to patients through thoughtful touches, from donating to the clothing closet to providing hair products, reading glasses, puzzles and other small “creature comforts.” These simple acts help patients feel cared for as whole people.
Kathy also embraces high-acuity assignments and sees the person behind every patient, including those others may find difficult to connect with. Her optimism and genuine compassion allow her to build meaningful connections and provide exceptional care.
Kathy is truly a blessing to her night-shift team and to every patient she encounters, wherever she is needed. Her generosity, positivity and heart for others make her an extraordinary example of living the mission. Thank you, Kathy, and congratulations.
