Osteoporosis is a common condition facing seniors. This presentation focuses on learning, about what osteoporosis and osteopenia are, what puts someone at risk for these issues, and what are the complications or worries associated with these conditions. As most seniors are concerned about falling, when osteoporosis is diagnosed and treated, the risk of serious fractures is greatly decreased. We will also discuss the types of medications used to treat osteoporosis and the importance of taking them consistently. Lastly, screening recommendations will be discussed so that those in attendance can leave knowing if they need to take action to get screened for osteoporosis.
