Karen McGuire, APRN-CNP, is a nurse practitioner working in primary care with special interests in chronic disease management, preventive healthcare, and wellness.

She earned her Master of Science in nursing-nurse practitioner from Wright State University. Karen worked as a family nurse practitioner for over five years prior to her role with Kettering Health. She also worked as a registered nurse and nurse manager for several years before becoming a nurse practitioner.

Karen has worked in the medical field for a while. Once she became a nurse, she realized she was on the right path and had found her passion. She enjoys caring for and educating her patients, as well as mentoring new nurses and coworkers. Karen chose to advance her career by becoming an advanced practice provider, and by doing so she knew she could make a greater impact without losing all the facets of healthcare that she loves.

Outside of patient care, Karen enjoys spending time with her friends and family, traveling, going to concerts, and working on home improvements.

A certified nurse practitioner (CNP) is an advanced practice registered nurse. They hold a master’s or doctoral degree and have advanced clinical training. They collaborate with physicians to diagnose and treat patients. Like physicians, they can make referrals, provide physical exams, order and interpret tests, and prescribe medications.
