Allied Health Students
Whether you are studying imaging, respiratory care, rehab, lab sciences, or medical assisting, we have programs designed to support your growth at every stage of your education.
It’s never too early to start a career in imaging. Students at any stage can gain hands-on experience and explore roles aligned with their goals.
Early employment
- Technologist assistant: Available starting your first year, supporting patient prep, scheduling, and department duties.
- General x-ray machine operator (GXMO): Available in your second year with limited GXMO licensure to assists with imaging tasks involving limited radiation.
- Unregistered ultrasound technician: Available as you progress through your program; works alongside the sonography team performing ultrasound procedures.
We also welcome clinical rotation students in radiology and sonography. Students or program coordinators may submit an interest form to arrange a rotation.
Professional growth and advancement
As graduation approaches, we offer inpatient and outpatient opportunities to support a smooth transition into full-time imaging roles. Kettering Health imaging professionals may pursue advanced certifications as they progress in their careers.

During the fall semester of your senior year, you are eligible to obtain a limited license through the state of Ohio and begin working in this role. Kettering Health can help you obtain this license if you qualify. In this position, you will perform a variety of daily respiratory procedures for non-critical patients across all age groups.

Our new grad PT and OT program is built with your transition in mind. You will receive additional documentation support as you ramp up to a full patient caseload. Our goal is to set you up for long-term confidence, not just short-term performance.
- Inpatient opportunities: Neuromed, trauma, orthopedics, intensive care, emergency department, cardiac, oncology, general med surg, NICU, inpatient rehab, and more
- Outpatient opportunities: Pelvic floor therapy, Sports and dance therapy, lymphedema, vestibular therapy, hand therapy, orthopedic clinics, neurorehab and balance, and more
Kettering Health provides all therapists with continuing education opportunities through MedBridge. Physical therapists have access to a clinical ladder program that creates a structured path for career advancement, including an advanced therapist level and a clinical specialist level. Lab careers offer a unique combination of science, technology, and problem-solving. We have roles for students at every stage of their education and a strong commitment to supporting your long-term growth.
- Clinical laboratory assistant (CLA) or phlebotomist: Short-term certificate programs qualify you for these roles, making them a great option for students who want to work while completing a lab degree.
- Medical lab technician (MLT): Requires an associate degree in Medical Lab Science and is a great entry point into a lab career.
- Medical technologist (MT) / medical lab scientist (MLS): For students who have completed a bachelor’s degree in Medical Lab Science. Kettering Health Main Campus’ core lab has specialty areas in microbiology, molecular testing, and blood bank.
Most of our medical assistants work in one of our 120+ physician practices, which means close relationships with care teams and patients and a work schedule that supports work-life balance. Our outpatient teams typically work eight-hour shifts Monday through Friday with no weekend or holiday requirements.

Summer Business Internship
Every summer, Kettering Health selects a group of students from partner colleges across the country to participate in a ten-week paid business internship in Dayton, Ohio. Interns take on real projects, attend leadership development seminars, and interact directly with executive leadership.

Nursing Students
Whether you are looking for a flexible part-time nursing role, hands-on summer experience, or a full-time nursing position after graduation, we have the resources to help you take that next step with confidence.
If you are in a pre-nursing or nursing program, you are eligible to work as a nursing assistant with us. We work with you to find a role that is flexible around your class schedule.
We understand that your senior year is already full. Our contingency program is designed to take one major uncertainty off your plate. If your school participates in the Kettering Health preceptorship program, you can interview for a full-time role early and, if an offer is extended, receive guaranteed placement for your senior preceptorship on the same unit where you accepted the job.
How it works:
- Submit our interest form before your senior year begins.
- Interview and job shadow for a full-time role.
- Accept the position if an offer is extended. An acceptance deadline will be provided.
- Receive guaranteed placement for your senior preceptorship on that unit.
- Transition into a permanent full-time role as part of the nurse residency program.
All permanent offers are contingent upon performance during preceptorship, successful completion of nursing school, and passing the NCLEX.

Program offerings: A ten-week program open to students who have completed their foundations course. Participants work three shifts per week and have additional opportunities to job shadow in various departments and connect with nursing leadership. Unit placement is based on availability.
Unit types: Acute care, emergency room, step down/progressive care, women’s labor and deliver, and mother and baby

- Attend an informational session on your campus this fall.
- Complete an in-person interview.
- Apply for the program.
- Receive feedback or an offer in November.
- Program runs May through July.
Over the summer, we partner with select schools to offer programs that give nursing students hands-on experience outside the classroom. If you are approaching graduation, there is an option for you.
Program offerings: A ten-week paid experience for students who have completed foundations, med-surg 1 and 2, pharmacology, and family courses, with a GPA of 3.0 or above. Externs gain 300 precepted clinical hours alongside nurses across a variety of unit types.
Unit types: Acute care, behavioral health, emergency room, ICU, perioperative, step down/progressive care, women’s labor and deliver, mother and baby, and NICU
Process:
- Attend an informational session on your campus this fall.
- Complete an in-person interview.
- Apply for the program.

Our nurse residency program is built to ease your transition from student to practicing nurse. Residents receive extended orientation support, are assigned a dedicated nurse educator, attend weekly cohort classes, and are mentored through the physical and emotional demands of patient care.
Program highlights:

- Regular intentional rounding from your assigned nurse educator
- Weekly cohort classes throughout your orientation period
- Access to tuition assistance, professional ladders, and leadership development as you grow
Unit types: Acute care, critical care, emergency room, perioperative, women’s labor and deliver, mother and baby, and NICU
Unit placement depends on availability.
Kettering Health has LPN opportunities in both outpatient physician practices and inpatient hospital units. Most outpatient LPNs work eight-hour Monday through Friday shifts with no weekend or holiday requirements. Inpatient LPNs typically work 12-hour shifts on med-surg units or varied shifts in perioperative services.
