Kettering Health Network will be hosting a free Public Safety Day event on Sunday, July 15 on the Plaza at Fifth Third Field before the Dragons game. Public Safety Day allows members of the Dayton community to recognize the area’s exceptional police, fire, and EMS departments and get up-close and personal with their vehicles.
From Noon until 2:30 p.m., families will enjoy plenty of FREE activities:
- Explore special displays featuring a fire truck, ambulance, SWAT vehicles, K-9 units, police cruisers, motorcycles, and more.
- Children will receive free plastic firefighter hats (while supplies last), get their face painted, experience the giant slide, and more
- All attendees can spin the wheel of health and visit numerous health fair booths hosted by Kettering Health Network services
- The Dragons Green Team and mascots, Heater and Gem will be roaming the event and interacting with those in attendance
A cardiac arrest survivor will be throwing out the first pitch and the crew that saved him will be honored on the field before the game. Mike Hood was at home the evening of May 26 when he suffered a sudden cardiac arrest. His wife called 911 and quickly began CPR. Riverside Fire Department received the call and medics responded. This team provided a life-saving shock to restart his heart. They continued expert care throughout their transport to Soin Medical Center where he was hospitalized. Today, Mike has no lasting effects from this event thanks to the dedication of these extraordinary public safety professionals.
