We are honored to recognize Kettering Health Hamilton registered nurse Jill Hartman for Living the Mission with the extraordinary kindness and empathy she demonstrated during a difficult moment.
A patient arrived for surgery carrying rosaries that had been given to him when he was 12 years old and blessed by the Pope. They held deep personal, spiritual, and emotional significance, and he strongly wished to keep them with him. Despite careful efforts, the rosaries were lost during the procedure.
The loss deeply affected the patient and the staff involved. Recognizing what they meant, Jill, a circulating nurse, made a remarkable personal gesture. She chose to give the patient her own rosary, which had also been blessed by the Pope. Her decision was thoughtful, selfless, and deeply compassionate.
Jill’s actions reminded the patient that care extends far beyond physical treatment. She honored his emotional, cultural, and spiritual needs during a vulnerable time, bringing comfort when it was needed most. Her generosity also reflected the kind of healing presence that leaves a lasting impact on patients, families, and coworkers alike.
Jill, thank you for the grace, compassion, and humanity you always show our patients. Congratulations!
