Help us celebrate our advanced practice providers (APPs) during National APP Week September 23-27. Each year, this national observance aims to honor physician assistants, nurse practitioners, certified registered nurse anesthetists, clinical nurse specialists, certified nurse midwives, and behavioral therapists.
We’re grateful to the APPs across Kettering Health who bring their best each day for our patients and communities. Know an APP you’d like to thank? Share a message of appreciation here.
Check out the video below that highlights a handful of our outstanding APPs. Because of their commitment to their patients, they’ve also been nominated for the following national APP Week awards that celebrate the achievements of APPs and their contributions to healthcare throughout the country. Excerpts of their nominations from peers and leaders are below:
APP of the Year: Joia Henson, APRN-CNP
“I am fortunate enough to partner with Joia on many primary care projects…She is collaborative and professional when needing to bring forward varying opinions or angles the team needs to consider. Her perspective is always valued and respected and that is largely because of her professional expertise and delivery.”
“I truly value the approach Joia takes to support the team of primary care APPs. She is direct, yet kind…She is highly invested in others, wanting all to succeed. Joia is not always tasked with the easiest of conversations but does so very gracefully and I believe those that are mentored by her do walk away feeling that she cares…I truly value my partnership with Joia and I have seen first-hand the changes she has helped foster in supporting others to be their best and creating a positive work culture.”
Emerging Leader: Sarah-Jane McPherson, APRN-CNP
Sarah is a great support to her team, serving as a mentor for onboarding APPs as well as LPNs. She also precepts NP students. And when coverage is needed or other providers are out of the office, Sarah steps in to support nurses and give direction on care. She cares deeply for patients, ensuring everyone is taken care of before leaving for the day.
APP Rising Star: Micayah Mills, PA-C
“Micayah serves on our Process Improvement team and attends our weekly meetings. She also recently started attending our bi-weekly meetings with Dr. Hoeprich. She does this on her own time…She has found a passion for process improvement and daily operations. She will meet with her peers asking for feedback and has been instrumental in creating implementable changes in our service line.”
“On her own, Micayah asked to be added and trained on additional inpatient shifts. She will pick up shifts to keep up her skills and be exposed to as much neurosurgery as possible. Her goal is to be a well-rounded provider, and she has a hunger for more experience and knowledge.”
“Micayah is a role model for her peers and has motivated me to work harder and find solutions. Her can-do attitude is contagious and inspiring. Not only does she focus on patient experience, but she will also ensure that she focuses on the experience of the staff and peers. She makes herself available to them, listens intently, and makes others feel heard and appreciated.”
