On Monday, July 24, the Kettering Health Emergency Outreach Team joined the Cincinnati Bengals’ coaching staff for hands-on CPR and AED training at the Bengals’ indoor practice facility.
CPR can double or triple someone’s chance of survival when performed in the first few minutes of cardiac arrest. The event was held to prepare coaches for emergent situations where lifesaving care is needed—and quickly.
“It is our responsibility as coaches to be equipped to handle any unforeseen situations that could come up,” said Zach Taylor, head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals. “We’ve seen firsthand how CPR saves lives, so we’re going to put in the work to make sure we’re prepared for any unforeseen moments.”
Part of Kettering Health’s role as the official healthcare provider of the Cincinnati Bengals involves caring for those attending events at Paycor Stadium. With the coaching staff spending as much time in the stadium as anyone else, equipping them with these critical skills felt like the perfect fit.
“Kettering Health is a great partner,” said Matt Summers, head athletic trainer of the Cincinnati Bengals. “They have highly trained individuals for this type of training. It’s really important to have as many people within our organization prepared for the unpredictability of something like cardiac arrest. The more people who are educated on performing CPR, the more it enhances the potential survival rate for someone who goes into cardiac arrest.”
