Truven Health Analytics™ has named Kettering Medical Center and Sycamore Medical Center as two of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals®. Truven Health Analytics is a leading provider of information and solutions to improve the cost and quality of healthcare. Kettering and Sycamore are the only hospitals to achieve this designation.
This is the 12th time that Kettering Medical Center has been recognized with this honor. This year marks the 7th time that Sycamore Medical Center has received the award.
“This is a great honor,” says Jarrod McNaughton, president of Kettering Medical Center. “For Kettering to receive it 12 times is unequivocally amazing! Our designation as one of the best hospitals in the country is the result of collaborative teamwork and focused strategies to deliver quality care.”
“Once again, we are proud to be recognized as a 100 Top Hospital,” says Walter Sackett, president of Sycamore Medical Center. “At Sycamore, providing safe, compassionate, exceptional care is our top priority.”
The study shows that if all hospitals in the U.S. performed at the level of Kettering, Sycamore and the other winning hospitals:
- Nearly 104,000 additional lives could be saved
- Nearly 48,400 additional patients could be complication free
- Nearly $2 billion in inpatient costs could be saved
- Nearly 245,000 fewer discharged patients could be readmitted within 30 days
The Truven Health 100 Top Hospitals study identifies hospitals and leadership teams that provide the highest level of value to their communities, based on a national balanced scorecard measuring overall organizational performance across 11 key analytic measures including patient care, operational efficiency, and financial stability. The study has been conducted annually since 1993.
To conduct the 100 Top Hospitals study, Truven Health researchers evaluated close to 3,000 short-term, acute-care, nonfederal hospitals. Researchers use risk-adjusted methodologies to analyze public information — Medicare cost reports, Medicare Provider Analysis and Review (MEDPAR) data, and core measures and patient satisfaction data from the CMS Hospital Compare reports. Hospitals do not apply, and winners do not pay to market this honor.
