Baby Fair features family activities and a visit by Disney’s Doc McStuffins
Car seats will be inspected for free at the Southview Medical Center Baby Fair on Sunday, August 21 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Southview is located at 1997 Miamisburg-Centerville Road in Washington Township, conveniently off I-675. The event is free and open to the public.
Car Seat Safety
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, three out of four car seats are not used correctly. Often installation is incorrect or the wrong type of seat is being used for the child's height, weight or age. For these children, the safety seat may not be protecting them the way it should.
Safe Sleep Demonstration
Every week in Ohio, three babies die in unsafe sleep environments. To help reduce infant sleep-related deaths, maternity department nurses are providing a Safe Sleep demonstration.
Southview Baby Fair
The Baby Fair includes practically everything you need to know to prepare for the arrival of your new baby. You can tour Southview’s maternity unit, visit retail booths, talk to OB/GYNs, and sign up for childbirth classes. The fair also features food, prizes and entertainment, including balloon artists and face painters.
Disney Junior Channel’s Doc McStuffins is the featured guest. The character is a 7-year-old girl who can “fix” toys with a little help from her stuffed animal friends.
A fire truck and Kettering Mobile Care vehicles will be on site for tours.
Southview Medical Center is one of nine hospitals in the state with Baby-Friendly® designation by Baby-Friendly USA. The designation recognizes hospitals that offer an optimal level of care for infant feeding and mother/baby bonding.
Dads Derby
Dads can test their skill at maneuvering a baby stroller in the Dads Derby. Contestants will push a stroller with a baby doll inside through a timed obstacle course of four stations, where they will have to:
- Pack the bag for the hospital with the top 5 necessary items
- Diaper and dress the baby doll, then put the doll in a stroller
- Drink milk from a baby bottle
- Finish line
The event will be held at 2:45 p.m. Winners will receive a $50 gift certificate to Dick’s Sporting Goods.
