Kettering Health is holding its next Safety Stand Down on September 24, setting aside time for intentional discussions about patient safety. Units across Kettering Health will take 30 minutes to focus on policies and protocols about a specific safety topic, and this Safety Stand Down will focus on the importance of dual independent verification for high-risk medications.  

Who should attend? 

Employees who work in any clinical and some procedural area should plan to participate.   

When is it happening? 

These meetings will happen across the system on September 24. Because of differences in clinical schedules, times and locations are being determined by individual departments and units. Your leader will share information specific to your unit.  

Note: During these meetings, we will continue to meet critical patient needs, so there is no interruption to their care.  

What should I expect?  

In this meeting, teams will review recent trends in our safety data, discuss policies and protocols, and talk about opportunities to improve the safety of our patients. This meeting focuses on the importance of dual independent verification for high-risk medications, so come prepared to talk about any safety concerns.  

What do I need to do? 

Team members should come prepared to listen and provide feedback. About 15 minutes—half of the meeting time—will be reserved for discussion and feedback, as getting perspective directly from frontline team members helps us create a safer space for everyone on our units.
