At the end of August, Montgomery County Commissioner Judy Dodge toured the Unity Garden at Kettering Health Dayton to highlight local efforts to combat food insecurity in Dayton.
Founded by Kettering Health nurse and Ohio Hospital Association Healthcare Worker of the Year finalist Bruce Kidney, the Unity Garden is a community garden that increases access to fresh, healthy food for community members in need.
“According to Feeding America’s Map the Meal Gap data, approximately 87,000 people in Montgomery County are food insecure,” Commissioner Dodge said. “That means 87,000 people in our community don’t know where their next meal is coming from. Efforts like this are helping to make a difference.”
Leaders from Kettering Health Dayton and Grandview Foundation also joined the tour to recognize the garden’s impact and generous financial support from Grandview Foundation and local businesses. Among recent contributions was a recent $50,000 donation from Grandview Foundation.
