Kettering Health team members joined local businesses, churches and community organizations at the 48th Annual Clinton County Corn Festival this fall, competing in the festival’s popular Corn Olympics for the first time.
The team included employees from Kettering Health locations in Washington Court House and Jamestown. The event also provided an opportunity to connect with community members as Kettering Health continues to grow its presence across Fayette and Clinton counties through the new Fayette County Health Center and expanded Kettering Health Wilmington Health Center.
For Stacey Smith, an LPN at the Fayette Health Center, the event provided an opportunity to strengthen relationships among team members while increasing Kettering Health’s visibility in the community.
“I thought it would be a great opportunity for our new office here in Washington Court House to kind of get Kettering Health out there and a fun way to do some team building for the new office and some of our other offices,” Smith said.
The team competed in a variety of challenges, including an obstacle course, hay bale race, toilet seat toss and a Blues Brothers-themed outhouse race. Although rainy weather forced some activities indoors, Smith said the competition relied heavily on teamwork and communication.
“Basically, every event was a team event,” she said. “We had to really communicate and work together to try to complete each obstacle.”
Smith said the event helped employees from different offices get to know one another outside of the workplace, particularly newer team members.
“I think it gave us a chance, especially the new employees to our office that didn’t know some people from the other offices,” she said. “We got to learn about each other a little more.”
Team members representing Kettering Health included Angie Crooks, Lorrie Arnold, Christina Rhoades, Michelle Clemons, Dr. Denise Kennedy, Grenetta Ritenour, APRN-CNP, Danielle Swisshelm, PA, Emily Bower, APRN-CNP, Angie Evans and Stacey Smith. Smith’s son, Wyatt Mayer, also participated with the team.
The experience was so positive that participants have already begun discussing a return next year.
“I think everybody had fun,” Smith said. “Everybody has already started talking about next year.”
