Today the structural heart clinic at Kettering Medical Center celebrated the completion of their 100th TAVR procedure.
Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement, or TAVR, is a type of heart surgery that became FDA approved in 2011 for high risk patients, and replaces a diseased aortic valve via a thin, flexible tube called a catheter. The catheter is inserted into a blood vessel in your groin or between your ribs, and the surgeon uses the catheter to bring the new valve to your heart
The first TAVR procedures at Kettering Health Network were performed November 24, 2014 by Interventional Cardiologists Brian Schwartz, MD and Raja Nazir, MD and Cardiothoracic Surgeons Thomas Merle, MD and Peter Pavlina, MD.
This team has been working with the latest in cardiac technology to provide the best patient centered care they can give.
Jarrod McNaughton, president of Kettering Medical Center, was there to congratulate the team on their job well done.
