The 2S team working out of the Kettering Health Main Campus exemplified the values of excellence and wholeness while caring for a young, nonverbal patient with autism who was admitted under difficult circumstances without a guardian. The team’s compassionate, coordinated approach ensured the patient received safe, consistent, and individualized care throughout his extended stay.
Hunter Bachmann, NA, demonstrated excellence through initiative and consistency, picking up extra shifts, creating an eight-page care guide for sitters, decorating the patient’s room, engaging him in walks and activities, and even providing clothing to ensure his comfort and dignity.
Maegen Pendleton, NA, embodied wholeness through patient-centered, sensory informed care. She supported the patient through hygiene and grooming routines, assisted him in communicating his needs, advocated for a more home-like room, and remained calm and reassuring during challenging moments.

Thanks to their sustained attention, a serious medical concern was identified early, and the patient grew more trusting and comfortable each day.
This achievement reflects the strength of the entire 2S team, whose collaboration across nursing, social work, case management, and SLP ensured truly holistic care.
