Congratulations to Living the Mission Award winner Gerald Malott! Gerald is an RN gamma knife coordinator at Kettering Health Main Campus.
The Living the Mission Award is given to people who bring Kettering Health’s mission to life, demonstrating the sacred work of improving the quality of life for people in the communities we serve. They use their own time and resources to transform lives, whether that’s in one of our facilities or out in the community.
Read Gerald’s nomination story below.
“Jerry has an extraordinary eye for detail. In his life before nursing, he was an engineer, so both sides of his brain were firing at all times. He is the Wee Vikes football and baseball teams’ head coach. He not only teaches these young boys how to play the game and the dedication it takes to be good sportsmen but also to be good at sports. He has led his teams to be the envy of much larger programs. What sets Jerry apart is the depth of what he is teaching these future men. He teaches them about community and brotherhood. If you see one of your teammates behaving badly, call him out; if he is being bullied, stand up for him; if someone needs lunch money, give it to him, and so on. He leads by example always. He is patient and kind, but when need be, he will be stern. He does not lose his temper or raise his voice. When one of the kids has family issues, he will be the male influence the boy needs but not overstep. He has brought kids into his home and has paid fees when families can’t.
I am beyond proud to call him my friend. He makes me a better person. Our patients benefit from Jerry taking care of every detail. He will know everything about them possible before he calls them to set up an appointment. He thoroughly explains every step of the Gamma Knife procedure in great detail and what can be expected three times over. He understands how people display fear differently and works to set them at ease. Without fail, every patient feels like they have a friend who is looking out for them. He has set this department up to run like a well-oiled machine that runs like clockwork. It is a pleasure to work with him and in the environment he has created.”
