Few things in life are as simultaneously exciting and overwhelming as welcoming a new baby into the world. Whether you’re currently expecting or thinking about starting a family, the amount of information available is a lot to take in:
- When should I begin taking prenatal vitamins?
- How often do I need to see the obstetrician?
- What is the safest sleep position for a newborn?
- How do I install the car seat correctly?
Making sense of it all
Kettering Health Network offers free baby fairs as a great way for expectant and soon-to-be expectant parents to obtain valuable information in a fun, family-friendly environment.
“What drew me to my first Kettering Health Network baby fair was the safety information,” said Becky Heiland of Miamisburg. “They had tons of helpful information available, but I was most concerned with the safety, like proper sleep positions for the baby and the car seat safety checks.”
Baby fairs are free, open-house events held at various hospitals within the Kettering Health Network. Future parents can learn more about successful pregnancy planning, financial planning, what to anticipate during pregnancy, and what to expect once baby arrives.
“We believe it is an honor to support families through this transition and want all parents to feel welcomed and at ease when the ‘Big Day’ arrives,” said Miriam Cartmell, executive director, women’s and children’s service line at Kettering Health Network. “Sharing all we have to offer will help to answer many questions expectant parents may have.”
The baby fairs will feature display tables offering a wide range of support services and educational materials, as well as some pampering experiences. In addition, there will be tours of the OB and NICU areas, with information provided by clinical experts. A number of vendors and organizations will be on hand with new parent information including the March of Dimes, high-risk services, physicians, childbirth education class offerings, safe sleep display, Bella Baby Photography, and many more.
Online pre-registration and prizes
Pre-registration and details for upcoming baby fairs are available online. Registered attendees will be eligible to win prizes at the baby fair just for attending.
As for Heiland, attending baby fairs isn’t just a one-and-done type of experience. She has attended a baby fair with each of her two pregnancies.
“So much can change between pregnancies, especially with all of the ongoing research and safety regulations. It’s comforting to know you have the most up-to-date information,” said Heiland.
