Jeanna Bainbridge, Gabriella Henn, Elizabeth Wittmer, and Sarah Willis — Endoscopy, Kettering Health Main Campus
“This group befriended an ICU patient who was brought to Gastroenterology for a procedure. The group of RNs learned that this patient had no family and was very worried about her cats at home due to her hospitalization. The patient relayed that her cats had not been fed since she came to the hospital days prior. Sarah Willis, RN, offered to go to the patient’s house after her shift to feed her cats on this day. The patient provided a key to Sarah and another RN, Elizabeth. After work that day, the two went to the patient’s residence and fed, played with, loved on the cats, and cleaned litter boxes. They took pictures of happy, fed cats and shared them with the patient the next day. Additional days in the hospital followed so two more RNs, Jeanna and Gabi, got involved in tending to cats after or before coming to/from work. This patient has been discharged home, returning to her home and cats. The nurses named their efforts ‘Operation 9 Lives’…a PURRRRRFECT name for their loving, giving support to this patient. These nurses are truly living our mission to care. This act of kindness goes above and beyond in caring for a patient who had no one. Providing peace of mind that her cats were being cared for allowed for healing, no doubt. AWESOME WORK ‘OPERATION 9 LIVES’!!”
