Shannon Miller, the most decorated Olympic gymnast in American history, will be the featured speaker at the 19th annual Ribbon of Hope Luncheon on Tuesday, October 8 at 11:45 a.m. at Sinclair Community College’s Ponitz Center, 444 West Third Street, Building 12 in Dayton.
Shannon has won seven Olympic medals (two gold, two silver, three bronze) and nine World Championship medals. She is the only female athlete to be inducted into the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame twice: once as an individual (2006) and once as part of a team (2008).
In January of 2011, Shannon was diagnosed with a rare form of ovarian cancer. She is now cancer-free and continues to be a strong advocate for early detection, awareness, research and survivorship. Shannon's book, “It's Not About Perfect: Competing for My Country and Fighting for My Life,” is her inspirational memoir written to encourage and empower others to break through and overcome their own personal challenges.
The luncheon also features boutiques and health and wellness vendors. Doors open at 10:00 a.m. Luncheon registration begins at 11:00 a.m. Parking is free for luncheon guests. Registration is limited. For more information or to register, visit kmcfoundation.org.
Proceeds from this event support Kettering Medical Center Foundation's Women's Wellness Fund, which provides breast imaging services and other women's cancer care to uninsured or underserved women in the Dayton-area at no cost to them. The fund has helped more than 15,000 women and more than $2.2 million has been raised since 1995 through the Walk for Women's Wellness and The Ribbon of Hope Luncheon.
