Through employee engagement surveys, many of you shared an opportunity for us to examine the demand of required education. We’re examining ways to improve the experience and delivery of this education, beginning with regulatory education.
What is regulatory education?
National and state organizations define education requirements that organizations must provide to support certification or verification. For our teams, regulatory and certifying agencies that impact our regulatory education requirements include ACHC, stroke certification, Ohio Department of Health, OSHA, bariatrics certification, trauma certification, and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA).
Two key changes to regulatory education in 2024
- A new timeline for Annual Mandatory Education and Corporate Integrity Education
This education is required by ACHC and has historically been assigned on February 1 with a required completion date of March 31. This year, this education will be assigned on August 1 with a required completion date of October 31. This transition moves this education from a period of known high census to a period of lower census while still achieving annual completion according to ACHC definitions.
- More time to complete annual clinical regulatory education
Many of our clinical teams shared that it would be helpful to have more time allotted to complete annual clinical regulatory education. These assignments, such as stroke education and point-of-care testing, have typically been staggered and assigned throughout the year. In 2024, all clinical regulatory education assignments will be made by January 29 with a mandatory due date of October 31. The goal for this longer period is to give our clinical teams the autonomy to balance when they complete the education. This assigned education will not replace other education, such as responsive safety education, that aligns with and supports the organization’s strategic plan and may be assigned throughout the year. However, one of the goals for 2024 is to have a more coordinated approach to education assignments, communication, and timelines.
