Kettering Health is hosting its second period poverty donation drive, collecting feminine products like pads, tampons, and liners for women in our community who can’t afford them.
A local nonprofit, Period Kits Ohio, is partnering with us for this donation drive. They will collect the donations and then distribute them to women’s shelters and other spaces in the area.

Last year, our system collected 564 boxes of period supplies. Keep reading to learn how you can support our community during this year’s drive.
How to participate
Throughout the month of March, you can drop off products like pads, tampons, and liners in the designated donation barrels located throughout the system (see full list at the end of this article).
In addition to packages of products, individually wrapped items can be donated using the following guidance:
- If the box is open, keep everything in the box and tape it closed.
- If products aren’t in a box, put items in a plastic bag and write the absorbency on the bag.
Understanding period poverty
About 28% of the Dayton population lives below the poverty line–and the largest demographic living in poverty is women 25-34.
Those who menstruate will spend an average of $6,000 in their lifetime on period products before tax (unlike food and medical supplies, period products are seen as non-essential and are subject to sales tax). Menstrual supplies are also not eligible purchases under financial assistance programs like SNAP or WIC.
