Meet Rachelle Dulan, DO, family medicine resident at Kettering Health Dayton.
A native Daytonian, Dr. Dulan returned to Kettering Health Dayton after completing her undergraduate and medical degree. What drew her back to her hometown, and specifically to Kettering Health, was the opportunity to infuse the tenets of her Seventh-day Adventist faith with her medical practice.
“The Adventist health message resonates with my style of practice—managing chronic disease through lifestyle,” Dr. Dulan shared. “Doctors of osteopathic medicine believe there are three components to our health—mind, body, and spirit. Primary care physicians often treat ailments of the mind and body, but having the resources and the support of a religious healthcare network allows me to also address that third component of spirit.”
In the osteopathic tradition, Dr. Dulan is impacting the health of Dayton with her cooking show, Food is My Medicine. The four-week online class, available here, focuses on “healthy eating and exercise in the management of chronic diseases.”
“The show provides a fun and interactive platform for families to cook together and learn about eating and living healthy lifestyles,” Dr Dulan shared.
Dr. Dulan shared that her greatest inspiration are her “resilient, resourceful, loving, passionate, and genuine” patients.
“As an African-American, female, osteopathic physician, it is not often that I meet other physicians like myself, “she shared. “When interacting with my patients, they often tell me that they have never had a doctor that looks like them before. This inspires me to persevere even when my job gets difficult. It inspires me to share my story and encourage other Black and brown children that they can accomplish anything they put their minds to, like becoming a doctor. I am grateful to have patients that love me and support me. I love them back and their health and wellbeing is at the center of all I do.”
