Research
The Kettering Health GME research committee is represented by the director of innovation, grants, and research, program directors and associate program directors from various specialties, as well as representatives from our medical libraries and institutional review board team. The committee exists to create a robust research environment for all residency and fellowship programs.
All faculty and resident/fellow scholarly activity, including publications, book chapters, oral presentations, posters, and other scholarly activity is tracked and logged. The committee identifies additional faculty who are interested in both mentoring the residents and fellows and helping them with their projects. Online resources are available 24/7 through the medical education intranet system. The system includes a full research manual, which has a quick-start research navigator, and very detailed instructions on the basics and process of doing research.
Our residents and fellows have many publications and presentations at national and regional meetings.
Well-Being
Kettering Health’s Well-Being program is structured to support the well-being of providers with a preventive, diagnostic, and intervention approach.
Prevention
Residents and fellows have a voice in the strategic and operational direction of the well-being program and to collaborate with their program coordinators and program directors to implement well-being initiatives.
A voluntary position held by a resident or fellow designed to leverage the power of peer influence in supporting well-being initiatives in their program. Each program will identify one well-being champion who will work with well-being leadership, program coordinator and program director to assist in the planning and implementation of well-being solutions
Affinity groups designed around common interests with the goal of building community and reducing isolation and loneliness. Examples are running clubs, women in medicine, reading clubs, etc.
A closed meeting, for residents and fellows only. This group meets monthly to share thoughts and feelings around pre-determined topics relevant to the experiences of residents and fellows. These discussions are facilitated by a licensed clinical counselor and designed to create community and provide a safe space for candid discussions with the goal of providing support.

Diagnostic Well-Being Support
We have partnered with the MedEd solutions to offer the well-being index to resident and fellows to provide immediate individualized feedback. Tools and other resources are also available to address well-being.
We assess the well-being of our residents and fellows quarterly and use our findings to identify opportunities to improve our well-being solutions and support.
We conduct quarterly focus groups comprised of residents and fellows from varied specialties and years of residency/fellowship. This process is designed to obtain feedback, using this information for program improvements.
Treatment
We currently work with two mental health counselors- one male and one female who provide confidential support for our residents and fellows.
Our goal is to expand the diversity of our mental health providers to meet the needs of our resident/fellow population.
These half- day to full-day retreats will be available for individuals and groups who are experiencing higher levels of stress and burnout and could benefit from a well-being reset.
