On Sunday, September 17, the Kettering Health Hand Center of Excellence, located at Kettering Health Washington Township, performed free hand surgery for 12 uninsured Dayton-area residents.
This community-focused event takes place annually and is called Hand Day Dayton. It’s an extension of Touching Hands, the American Society for Surgery of the Hand’s humanitarian mission, and is done in partnership with the Kettering Health Hand Center of Excellence, Orthopedic Associates of SW Ohio, TeamHealth, and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.
“Every year we look forward to Hand Day Dayton because it allows us to provide much-needed care to those who may not be able to afford it otherwise,” said Dr. Adam Dann, hand and upper extremity surgeon at Kettering Health. “Performing these complimentary surgeries allows us to further live our mission of improving the lives of our community members.”
Candidates were eligible if they do not have medical insurance and experience one of the following symptoms
- Numbness or tingling in the hands or fingers
- Fingers that are difficult to move
- Painful lumps in the hand or wrist
All surgery and follow-up care was provided at no cost.
