Kettering Health Washington Township hosted Hand Day on September 15, offering free hand surgery to patients without insurance. Teams from our Hand Center of Excellence, Orthopedic Associates of SW Ohio, and Team Health cared for 17 patients, completing a total of 34 procedures.
This is the seventh Hand Day for the system, and the team looks forward to it every year.
“This is ultimately the mission of our profession and the organization,” explains Dr. Adam Dann, orthopedic surgeon. “This is really what we’re here for. To provide this care and to be able to do so for patients that may not otherwise receive the care that they need.”

Like for Heather Diamond, who described the day as “a beautiful blessing” while she awaited surgery after suffering from pain for more than 6 years. Or Christine Rogers, who heard about Hand Day amidst a challenging circumstance.
“I lost my insurance in April, just as I found out my hand has arthritis,” she said. “It’s like a blessing in disguise. I was in a lot of pain wearing the braces, hoping my insurance was coming back next March. But that’s a long road to travel without insurance and dealing with the pain. So I’m grateful for this practice and that they’re taking care of this.”
