Zachary Hibberd, a Kettering Health athletic trainer serving Middletown Christian Schools, created 40 buckets stocked with emergency and first aid supplies for every classroom at the school.
“I wanted to take on this project because I work with these students and teachers every day and I want them to be prepared in case of a natural disaster, shooting, or long lockdown,” Zach explained. “I also wanted to show another way athletic trainers can be utilized at their schools and the importance of having us as a part of the community.”
Included in every five-gallon emergency bucket is a Stop the Bleed kit including instructions and a tourniquet, as well as first aid supplies, snacks, water, and a survival blanket.
Zach continued, “From there I worked on coming up with items to put in these kits that would be useful in any of these situations. The one item I felt was a no brainer was a Stop the Bleed kit. Trying to keep the cost down, I decided to make my own. Once all the items were procured, with the help of my student athletic training aids, we hand-packed all the buckets. This is a great start in ensuring the safety of my teachers and students.”
Zach also provided a training session for the teachers on the day the emergency buckets were distributed throughout the school. He said there are plans to make more emergency buckets for the for the Early Learning Center on the school’s campus.
Thank you, Zach, for taking the lead on this important project to help keep the staff and students at Middletown Christian Schools safe in the event of an emergency.
