Cynthia Hammond, Ph.D, is an assistant professor of Nursing at Kettering College. Originally from Dallas, Texas, Cynthia and her husband moved to Kettering in 2019—a move that at first, they were unsure about.
Hammond and her husband were hesitant to undertake a cross-country move, but after a few conversations with the college, and many prayers, they answered the call.
“My husband always says ‘I see that this is Divine direction—we better go!'” Hammond concluded that the move “was one of the best decisions they had ever made.”
On top of educating future frontline caregivers, Hammond has published a children’s book Ella Retella Germ Warfare: A Battle Within that helps kids understand the different kind of germs inside our bodies and what they do, and hosted a limited-run podcast called A PRN Moment For Nurses , which focuses on nurse wellness in the face of COVID-19. Cynthia has also aided in planning a nursing conference slated for later this year, and helped expand the Helping Hands initiative—a service-based supplement for nursing students—for Kettering Health.
Cynthia shared what inspires her are the people she works with, including her boss, Dean of Nursing, Paula Reams.
“She allows me to engage my energetic and creative passions, and put them toward service initiatives,” Cynthia shared. “This is a cycle that repeats and I get re-inspired, and the passion and service starts all over again!”
Cynthia’s advice to others: “Discover your passion. Your passion is your purpose.”
Like Cynthia, someone might have many passions, but she urges everyone to discover all their passions and “you will find that your life is going to be very busy, all because you will always chase those passions!”
