When employees consistently demonstrate our Kettering Health values, they deserve to be recognized. And that’s exactly what our 11 May Employees of the Month do as they carry out our mission.
Employee of the Month recognizes the people you love to work with. The winners exhibit Kettering Health’s Standards of Behavior, live out our values, and demonstrate the healing presence practices outlined in Called to Care.
Thank you for impacting the lives of those in our community by fulfilling our mission. Our work wouldn’t be possible without you!

“Over the last 58 years, Don has been a great example of what a friend and co-worker should be. Don seamlessly mixes his hard work ethic and dedication as an EVS mentor with his big smile and dedication to all the patients and colleagues he interacts with. With his work cleaning floors, he enjoys joking about “sweeping” people off their feet.”
“When a colleague had to call out sick, Brie immediately volunteered to step in so a student could finish their fieldwork. Brie has created a positive and supporting environment in the rehab department that has greatly increased morale throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.”
“Sergeant Blommel regularly checks in with the staff throughout all departments at Kettering Health Greene Memorial during his shift to see how he can help. This often involves going above and beyond his regular duties and is greatly appreciated by the entire team at KH Greene Memorial.”
“Terri was nominated by multiple colleagues for going above and beyond for patients on multiple occasions including helping an overwhelmed patient on dialysis find homes for their new kittens, helping an elderly patient in a wheelchair find their car in the snow, and bringing a strawberry cake to a patient who couldn’t find anything on the menu they liked. Terri also regularly volunteers at multiple places throughout the community.”
“Though Nicole’s colleagues often comment on her pleasant demeanor and how well liked she is by patients, Nicole was specifically nominated for her work with a terminally ill patient. This patient had no one to go with them to an end-of-life consultation with hospice. Nicole rearranged her schedule to attend the appointment at the patient’s request and continued to stay in touch even after discharge.”
“Christina’s patients always comment that her follow up calls are caring and comforting. She does what is needed for them to feel supported. She encourages colleagues to be better at their profession and offers feedback on how to similarly impact their patients. She is a beloved mentor and known for showing the kindness that Kettering Health is all about.”
“Whether she is surprising a co-worker with a balloon or a patient with some chapstick on their birthdays, Shandi is a ray of sunshine to all the patients and departments she interacts with. The epitome of a patient advocate, Shandi collaborates across her department as well as Nursing and Respiratory Therapy to ensure safe patient transfers. She recently made a handout for air cast proper use and educated herself on air mattress proper use to inform patients. Shandi is a huge asset to the whole medical center.”
“During an exceptionally busy day, Kelly stayed over an hour late to help her colleague get caught up on patient scans and even cleaned and stocked the room before leaving. She has a positive attitude no matter the situation and will help anyone in any way she can. Her manager goes so far as to call her positivity infectious. She has even attended a patient’s funeral. She had formed a strong enough bond that she needed to pay respect to the patient and their family.”
“Erica consistently strives to find solutions in an ever-changing and challenging healthcare environment. There is a shortage in the U.S. of a surgical tool critical for certain gynecological procedures and, knowing Kettering Health Washington Township was running especially low, Erica took it upon herself to find a company in England that produces them. Erica’s actions have the very real potential to relieve the entire system of a critically important surgical supply, one which is needed in both routine and emergent procedures alike. Her selfless act has impacted patients in a way that will allow us to provide the safest and most appropriate procedural care possible for our patients!”
“Katy is a trusted and dependable clinical resource at Kettering Health. When a complex antibiotic shortage occurred, Katy spent two days creating an exhaustive alternative antibiotic guideline for providers to use. This included reviewing relevant medical literature and considering the needs of numerous impacted departments. Her impact on patient care in this instance cannot be overstated.”
“A cancer patient gave a glowing accolade of their interaction with Amy. They had been nervous to pursue treatment but after Amy’s interactions with them (including discretion in the waiting room and reassuring conversation throughout the visit), they knew they made the right choice. They plan to share this with everyone they know.”
