Some caregivers leave a lasting impression because of how deeply they listen. Barbara is one of those caregivers. During a fellowship rotation in the OB/GYN department, her compassion, patience, and dedication to patient-centered care were immediately evident. She consistently ensures patients feel safe, informed, and supported not only emotionally but clinically as well.

Barbara’s impact is powerfully reflected in moments of vulnerability. One family returned after delivery simply to introduce their newborn and express gratitude for the reassurance and guidance Barbara provided throughout the pregnancy. Even more moving was her care for a pregnant patient carrying deep grief after recently experiencing a miscarriage related to a hospital error while also mourning the loss of her mother. The patient arrived visibly anxious and fearful.

Although another ultrasound was not clinically required, Barbara recognized that emotional healing mattered just as much as protocol. She offered comfort, took time to listen, and privately advocated with the provider for an additional ultrasound to give the patient reassurance. By rearranging her workflow, Barbara ensured the mother could once again see and hear her baby, an experience that brought visible relief and restored trust.
