June 19 is an important day. For many, it’s a day of celebration. For others, it’s a day of remembrance. The holiday, also known as “Juneteenth,” is a global celebration of the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. In June 2021, that date was established as a federal holiday, the first one declared since the 1980s. The holiday is widely celebrated in various ways that unite communities and families.
