Congratulations to Abigail Weaver, our December Living the Mission Award winner! Abigail works at Kettering Health Miamisburg.
The Living the Mission Award is given to people who bring Kettering Health’s mission to life, demonstrating the sacred work of improving the quality of life for people in the communities we serve. They use their own time and resources to transform lives, whether that’s in one of our facilities or out in the community.
Read Abigail’s nomination story below.

“There was a patient that was in our department for a procedure and upon discharge was going to be going into hospice care. This patient was very nervous for her procedure and about hospice care. The patient and Abby got to talking about the surgical hats that we were all wearing and how pretty they all looked. This helped to ease the patient’s nerves. Abby told the patient that she made them. The patient asked if there was any way her mom could give Abby money to pay for one as she really wanted an Ohio State one and her mom and sister would be jealous that she had one. This really touched Abby’s heart because the patient was scared to go to hospice and wanted a really nice gift to wear there. Abby said there was no need to pay her for the hat. Abby wanted to gift her a hat in case this was her last gift. Abby went home that night, made the hat, and personally delivered the hat to the patient at hospice. Abby was able to spend some time with the patient in hospice while delivering the hat. This truly lives up to the mission statement of Kettering Health in improving the quality of life for the patients we serve. She truly touched this patient’s life and eased her nerves. Abby always has a positive attitude and truly wants to help others even if it is in a small way.”
