Syrah Nicaisse, APRN-CNM, is a certified nurse midwife working in women's health and specializing in natural birth. She is also skilled in supporting complicated births in collaboration with her physician colleagues.

Syrah earned her Doctor of Science in nursing-nurse practitioner from The Ohio State University. She's worked in the Air Force for several years in different roles, including helping out with its nurse midwife services.

She knew she wanted to be a midwife since she was 17 years old. Her mother worked on a labor and delivery unit, so she grew up hearing about the excitement of birth. At 16, while volunteering where her mother worked, Syrah witnessed a midwife assist with a birth. She was inspired by how the midwife treated the woman with dignity and respect and empowered her to believe in her own body's strength.

In her spare time, Syrah enjoys hiking, being outdoors, baking, and cooking. Her biggest passions are tending to her family, her bees, and her garden.

What is a Certified Nurse Midwife?

A certified nurse midwife (CNM) is an advanced practice registered nurse. They hold a master’s or doctoral degree with specialized training in Women’s Health and a concentration in pregnancy, labor, birth, and care after birth. Midwives affirm the strength of women and recognize the importance of a woman’s well-being through every stage of life. Like physicians, they can make referrals, provide physical exams, order and interpret tests, and prescribe medications.
