About Me
Phil Porcelli, DO, is a board-certified neurosurgeon with special interests in lifestyle counseling and guidance on post-operative maintenance and the improvement of muscle tone, flexibility, and strength. He focuses on minimally invasive spine surgery including motion preservation to improve his patients' quality of life. Because of the negative impact sedentary lifestyles have on our health, he encourages patients to stay active and embrace lifestyle changes to keep moving after spine surgery.
Dr. Porcelli earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California. He completed a neurosurgery residency at Doctors Hospital at Grant Medical Center at Ohio University in Columbus. Dr. Porcelli then completed a second neurosurgery residency and served as the chief neurosurgery resident at Carle BroMenn Medical Center at the Central Illinois Neuro Health Sciences in Normal, Illinois. In addition to his medical training and real-world experience, he credits the physicians he has worked with in the past for instilling in him a patient-centered approach to decision-making, both in operative and non-operative care.
Dr. Porcelli became a doctor because of personal passion, selfless service, and his desire to make a meaningful impact on individuals' lives by improving their health and well-being. He appreciates the unique opportunity to alleviate suffering, diagnose complex medical conditions, and contribute to medical advancements in surgery. He also enjoys working in a collaborative environment with other healthcare professionals to enhance patient care.
Dr. Porcelli is married with one daughter. He uses his surgical expertise to serve his country in the U.S. Army Reserve as a neurosurgeon. In his spare time, Dr. Porcelli enjoys playing acoustic and electric guitar, fishing, cooking, and grilling. He also takes great pleasure in reading military history, especially military medicine. As a health and fitness advocate who enjoys staying active, he shares this passion with his patients to help them heal.
