There’s a lot of things you can do in 15 minutes:
If you can find 15 minutes to do so many things, why not take the time to get a mammogram that could help you determine where you stand with your breast health?
Do it for yourself. Do it for your family. It just might end up saving your life.
Did you know…
Rachel Blackburn is a firm believer in being proactive when it comes to her breast health. Though she has no family history of breast cancer, she always has been diligent about doing monthly self-exams and getting yearly mammograms.
Five years ago, a routine mammogram found a lump that had gone undetected during her annual physical exam.
“A few days after having my yearly mammogram, Kettering Breast Evaluation Center called me and said I needed a biopsy,” recalled the Dayton-area native. “I had it done, and two days later, my OB/GYN called with the news – I had breast cancer.”
According to the American Cancer Society, 1-in-8 women will develop invasive breast cancer in her lifetime. However, when caught early, the 5-year survival rate is 98 percent.
In Blackburn’s case, early detection and treatment made all the difference in her cancer story having a happy ending. She was diagnosed with Stage 2a invasive ductal carcinoma and began treatment immediately under the careful guidance of Kettering Health Network radiation and oncologists.
Early detection is the best protection
Kettering Health Network understands the importance of early detection when it comes breast health. That’s why Kettering Breast Evaluation Centers have several locations throughout the greater Dayton area, to make scheduling a mammogram as convenient as possible.
“I am proud to say that we have a wonderful team of highly experienced radiologists dedicated and trained in the subspecialty of breast imaging. This begins with mammography and encompasses other imaging tools such as ultrasound, MRI and nuclear breast imaging,” explained Sheila Manion, MD, medical director of Kettering Breast Evaluation Centers.
In addition, the new Kettering Cancer Center opening in December will include a Kettering Breast Evaluation Center with 3D mammography.
“A mammogram takes only 15 minutes of your time. It’s time well-spent on something that could possibly save your life,” said Blackburn. “Do it for yourself because you deserve another day.”
